On the 11th-15th of September, 2016, 21st Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) took place in Dublin, Ireland. The theme of the conference was “The Prosecutor and the Investigator”. 550 participants from 94 countries of the world took part in the event.

During five days prosecutors of different jurisdictions had a great opportunity to exchange experience in investigation of crimes, evidence gathering and providing independence while performing their official duties. 

Within a framework of the conference they held workshops for military prosecutors, heads of the prosecutor’s offices, anti-corruption prosecutors, environmental prosecutors and heads of the public associations of prosecutors.

Members of the Ukrainian Association of Prosecutors (UAP) took part in the conference.

On the 11th of September, 2016, the President of the International Association of Prosecutors Gerhard Jarosch, the Secretary General of IAP Han Moraal, and the chairman of the IAP Senate Nick Cowdery held a meeting with the President of the Ukrainian Association of Prosecutors, the Senator of IAP Oleksandr Shynalskyi.

During this meeting they discussed issues of support of the Ukrainian prosecutors on the part of IAP, further cooperation and plans for organization of conferences. Particularly they discussed questions of the individual membership in the International Association of Prosecutors. The participants of the meeting came to an agreement with all the items.

On the 11th of September, 2016, a meeting of the IAP Senate took place too.

The President of the Ukrainian Association of Prosecutors Oleksandr Shynalskyi held bilateral meetings with the Prosecutor General of Czech Republic Pavel Zeman, the Prosecutor General of Finland Matti Nissinen, and the Prosecutor General of Turkey Mehmet Akarca and many other heads of the prosecutor’s offices.

During the meeting with the Prosecutor General of Buenos Aires Luis Jorge Cevasco and the Council of Magistrate’s Council Body of the City of Buenos Aires Enzo Luis Pagani Oleksandr Shynalskyi discussed issues as for visits’ exchange of prosecutors of Argentina and Ukraine for the purpose of study of experience in investigation of crimes and providing independence of prosecutors.

At the suggestion of the Swedish colleagues the members of the UAP delegation held a meeting with the prosecutors of Sweden. The chief prosecutor of the department of the Swedish Prosecution Authority Solveig Wollstad suggested organizing of an educational program for the Ukrainian prosecutors concerning investigation of crimes, evidence gathering and support of prosecution on behalf of the state.

On the 15th of September, 2016, the General Meeting of the International Association of Prosecutors took place.

The General Meeting decided on all hands to elect Gerhard Jarosch (Austria) for a President of IAP for a new three-year period.

Han Moraal (The Netherlands) was elected a Secretary General of IAP.

New members of the Executive Committee of IAP were elected as well.

Next Annual Conference and General Meeting of IAP will take place in the People’s Republic of China.
